UK / Ecosse – Lundi 12/08/2019 – energiesdelamer.eu. The 26th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 26) to the UNFCCC is expected to take place from 9-19 November 2020. The conference is set to be hosted at Glasgow’s Scottish Events Campus (photo). Scottish renewables developer SSE said it was “delighted” COP26 will be hosted in Glasgow.

“As a company headquartered in Scotland, we are committed at SSE to helping the UK achieve net zero, make a success of COP26, and we will continue to power that drive towards a global clean energy revolution,” added chief executive Alistair Phillips-Davies. Glasgow has been chosen as the UK city to host the United Nation’s COP26 climate change summit next year if the country’s bid is successful.

The UK is bidding to secure the presidency and host the pow-wow over two weeks at the end of 2020 in partnership with Italy. The summit will host around 30,000 delegates from more than 200 countries, which will set out their national commitments to meet Paris Agreement obligations made in 2015. Former Energy Minister and the UK nominated President for COP26 Claire Perry said: “As one of the UK’s most sustainable cities, with a record for hosting high-profile international events, Glasgow is the right choice to showcase the UK’s commitment to the environment.”

Trade association Scottish Renewables said Glasgow was the “natural” choice to host COP26. “Scotland has some of the most ambitious climate change targets in the world, and we are already well on the way to achieving our 100% renewable energy target by 2020, with more ambition out to 2030 and beyond.”
